Joint Craft Project with Mom: Accent Throw for Neha and Aakash

Mom's hands in crochet action

It is not Christmas all over again. You can attribute these "Christmasy" pictures to my poor photography skills (I would also apologize for the poor lighting while taking the photos, but maybe I could blame that on the weather). The supposed red in the photographs is actually a deep rust/brick red, and the green is a rustic green. I am now at risk of sounding like a wall paint brochure--sunflower yellow, charcoal black, stone brown. I will stop right here.

The accent throw is a wedding/house warming present for Neha and Aakash. Neha and I were in graduate school together for our masters degree...she is a wonderful friend. I could not make it to her wedding party in Delhi this January, so this gift is more of a peace offering :)

This yarny project is a joint one--my mother did half of the work. She got quite addicted to it, and most of the time, one would hear her yell across the house--"Rima, why haven't you wound more yarn?"

Project done, yelling temporarily on hold. On the whole, it was super fun crafting with my mom again.

Pattern: Basic granny square, with a single crochet edging (four scs in each corner)
Yarn: Light worsted yarn from Patel Craft shop, Ulsoor, Bangalore
Crochet Hook: 4.00mm

It is SO rare to see a project that is just one huge granny square. How cool. I did something like that when I was a teenager. When I ran out of yarn, I was done. Yours looks much better, of course.

Rima... what a wonderful memory crafting with your mother will make. Your first photo shows the colors truely... and its a lovely blanket and a life-long gift to a friend!

Very nice! It looks very comfy and homey and makes me want a cup of hot cocoa! Does this make sense? I guess it just reminds me of comfy days at home just lounging around... the best kind of gift!

I forgive you!
Can I add that the throw is way more beautiful than the pictures. Can't wait for the blanket lumps to disappear from our bed so we can spread this out.
Am so thrilled and touched that aunty did half the work on this. (you slacker!)

I love your color scheme--I've made several of these giant granny afghans, and they're so much fun to do. In fact, I have yarn for another one waiting in the wings. I'm going to see if my sister wants to work on one with me--I like the idea of a joint project.

Such beautiful granny squares! I'd love to sit there and knit with the two of you!

I just gave you a couple of awards at my site, Rima, just because ...

That's an awesome joint project. I love crocheted afghans, but they are a lot of work. Having 2 people work on it is smart. I like the colors very much.

My mom does not knit or crochet and thinks that I am crazy for liking it so much.

great blanket! i came across your blog while searching for 'afghan' crochet hook. i am hooked to crocheting and would love to try an afghan baby blanket. any idea where to buy this special hook in bangalore?

Hi Janki--Since you didnt leave your contact information, I am going to leave my reply here. Are you look for hooks for tunisian crochet (afghan stitch)? If so, I am not sure where you will be able to find such hooks in Bangalore. You should try Ravi's Craft Shop and Surya Emporium on Commercial Street. If not there, Bombay Stores in Raja Market (Avenue Road) might stock them.
