During my time away, I braced myself, wove the ends, and buttoned this otherwise long finished baby cardigan. (Weaving and buttoning--how much I dislike you). I was done under an hour, and as always, I asked myself why I waited so long (!)

As most top down sweaters, this pattern is very straight forward. I initially wanted to make the cardigan in one color, but since I am stash busting, I used two.

The buttons from Downtown yarns made my day. Suketu yelled with pleasant surprise when he saw the cardigan. We are planning to design the baby section (we live in a teeny weeny NYC apt, so the baby will have a "section" in our bedroom) around an elephant theme. More details about the theme as we figure it out ourselves. Of course, we would love your suggestions/advice.

Pattern: Garter Yoke Baby Cardi (can be downloaded for free at Ravelry)
Yarn: Rowan Purelife Organic Cotton DK in Oak Bark (0.5 skeins) and Natural (2 skeins)
Needle: US 4
Size: 6 - 12 months
Modifications:
1. Worked the yoke until the chest was about 21-22 inches.
2. I wanted to keep the neck a little more open, so I didnt work the button bands right from the beginning of the neckline.
3. Worked the sleeves until I ran out of yarn.

The baby cardi is beautiful!! Great job. I love Sweet flour, too- of course, I live near it so it's way too tempting!

I love the two colors you used. It looks so sophisticated! A elephant theme will be so cute.
There will be many nights that Suketu will be sleeping in the living room so that he can get enough sleep to go to work. So make sure the couch is comfy for him.
I had the baby in my room in the beginning for a few months. We got a mini crib that we are still using and love. The normal sized ones are way too big for small apartments. And we passed on the changing table. We just used our bed since the crib was right there also. We just bought those disposable sheets and used it underneath when changing her. I actually just gave a box away because we don't need those anymore. But they are useful when you go out and have to change the baby in the car or public restroom.
I bet you're seen it already, but this is my favourite knitted elephant:

That sweater is fabulous. I'm trying to see if I can adapt it for Ella, my big "baby."
She slept in our room for the first long time, and it was very nice and cozy that way.
Rima!! that sweater is darling! just perfect! I always love your non baby color choices.
Have you looked into co-sleepers? I just picked up a mini one but the baby should still be able to sleep there for 5 or 6 months.
I love the idea of an elephant theme! :)
so stinking cute... I LOVE the elephants!!!
I like cardigan and buttons, too!!!
Kisses :)
I love, love, love, the baby cardi. You tend to make me see patterns I often over look. The use of color once again lovely.
It is so adorable and I love the contrast color too. Have fun decorating your nursery.
I love the little elephant buttons. Having your baby in your own room makes the night parenting part much easier ;)
