Thank you for your personal insights/experiences regarding the previous blog post. Also, some of you asked for an update about how things are going. Long story short--I am exhausted most of the time, but also awake most of the time. People say I should get all the sleep I can get...since October is around the corner, but as you can see, I am still in denial. Fortunately, Suketu has suddenly switched onto a "not in denial" mode, otherwise nothing would get done around here.
Our new home improvement project is organizing the apartment (no drilling yet, so it is a safe environment. I wish Suketu would not secretly aspire to be a carpenter or plumber). He is doing the painting/re-arranging and I am (reluctantly) cleaning. (Frankly, the anal-obsessive compulsive-Type A personality in me is missing in action. I would just love to vegetate on the couch, watch bad television, knit, eat, and aimlessly surf the internet.) We are currently painting the "baby section". Photo updates as the job progresses.
AND, just when you were getting sick of this pattern, and just when you were thinking I would not make one for Cupcake, here it is. I have made three versions of this blanket. Three. Here, here, and here. Please dont ask why. It is a love-hate relationship with mindless garter stitch.
I had 3.5 skeins left from the Law & Order Afghan project, and so I knit with the off-white halfway (that is, before decreasing). Then alternated the off-white and yellow, and when I ran out of the yellow, alternated with the red. When I ran out with the off-white, just knit with the red. You get the point. The ways of stashbusting life. I dont feel guilty that I had to buy the red and yellow--totally worth it.
Pattern: Grandmother's Favorite (this is a dishcloth pattern--I just knit a huge size)
Yarn: Plymouth Encore Chunky in Off-White, Yellow, and Red
Needle: US 10
Size: 35 inches * 35 inches

thank you for your comment about my blanket! But I LOVE yours!! I think you have the best taste in color choices. very original and they always look good. I hope you get some sleep soon! PS. do you like the plymouth encore chunky yarn?
You poor thing. It is hard to sleep during the pregnancy. Lots of kicking and being generally uncomfortable.
The blanket is so cheerful! Very nice colors combined together.
Take care!
what a fantastic blanket! Great job.

Great blog! I really enjoyed your photos, especially the portraits. I totally understand the mindless garter stitch knitting. Sometimes it is really nice to shut the mind off and let your fingers keep moving. Even better when the result is so lovely.
Hi, thanks for your kind comment on the flower cardigan & hat. Love your third version of the baby blanket! Best wishes on getting everything ready.
Its a matchy matchy to the first photo.. Love the blankie and the colors..
Me waiting for October for the cupcakes's flavour... hehehehe..
No experience so No advice :-)
Wow. I have been not reading blogs for too long! Congrats on your Cupcake. I remember the discomfort and little appendages poking and prodding in painful ways. I even had one pregnancy where I couldn't knit for months because it made feel ill. I did manage to get a blanket and sweater set done before baby came, though. I am thrilled with the quantity of things you always manage to be finishing!
Very Nice Blanket.Lovely colours too! Oh October is just two months away! Can't wait to see Cupcake :))

Well, I think getting the room done up is a huge step in getting out of denial! :) Good choice in colour!
When it comes to knitting, I just like to stick with simple stitches. Nothing fancy schmancy. So, I'm all for your garter stitch blanket!
Absolutely worth it! Cupcake is going to have the most beautiful blankets and cardigans that any other baby has ever had :)
What vibrant colours you choose!!! I wish I had your eye and hand (plus heart to stick to such choices!)
Wow! That blanket is so cute...I love the randomness and stash busting nature of it, but it still looks like you planned it that way.
Good luck with the last few weeks of your pregnancy...hopefully nesting mode will kick in soon :)
I love that blanket and enjoy the mindless garter stitch when my mind is busy or preoccupied or troubled. Sometimes you just don't need to be challenged any further, you know? And we are having a heat wave and i feel exactly like you do...just want to veg and sit and knit and craft...minus the pregnancy!
Love the photos from the previous post! Super exciting for you at this time w/ a cupcake on the way. Garter stitch is so simple, so classic, so perfect.
You're totally allowed to put your feet up and eat ice cream:) Your blankie for cupcake is so sweet.
although it's easier said than done, go easy on yourself. only do what you have the energy to do, and think of the not-sleeping-part as nature's practice run (the experience will help you out in the first month with your baby for sure).
happy knitting, and great blog!
Oh, enjoy denial as long as you can! Reality will kick in soon enough, and you'll be glad you took some time to chill out ;)
This blankie is my favorite of the three - the colors are fabulous. Looks nice with the new paint color.
I totally relate to the love-hate thing about garter stitch! Lol. I love the blanket - lovely colors. Take rest and I hope to see the Type A personality back in action - just lazing around! You need all the rest you can get!!
I knit two of those baby blankets in a month and I thought I was going to rip my hair out! I love the mindless knitting but I hadnothing else on the goat the same time so I was restricted to only those two blankets.
kudos to you! love the yellow room.
The blanket is lovely and I really like the colours your choose.
And I think your deserve a treat--ice creme fits the bill nicely.
Love the blanket and the colors...I so wish I knew how to knit....up to teaching??? Too bad I am in CA.
Thank you for the update...happy that all is progressing well with you and the little one...
Yes...sleep now...I regret not having taken this advice seriously...ha!
How do u manage to make garter stitch look so different and beautiful in 4 blankets. If you hadnt mentioned it I wouldnt know that it was the same stitch ( not that I know anything about knitting :)) But the blanket looks cheerful and love the wall colour too. Awaiting more pics!
The time is getting closer to finding out if this little cupcake is a boy or a girl. I'm so excited for you.
I can totally relate to the love/hate mindless garter stitch thing...I love it because with kids around I can pick it up and knit while multitasking the day away. But then I've always got a more difficult project on the needles, too, like socks, for when I need the mental stimulation of heel-turning. Anyhoo, I love your Another One, and your Other One. Best wishes to you and hubby!
love the new wall color and the blankie too - very innovative way to combine colors!
