Easy-Peasy

I am still here. And there has been crafting and other procrastination habits underway, but I just haven't gotten around blogging about it.

Since I got pregnant (calm done, not again. I am talking about Anya-pregnancy), I am frequently looking for shortcuts. Especially crafting and cooking. I need crafting for therapy and cooking for...err...therapy?

Iron-On Onesies

So during my pregnancy, I got quite fascinated with the idea of iron-ons. They are the perfect thing to perk up a boring item...in this case, a onesie (see previous iron-on crafting project here). So I bought several plain old-white ones, and transferred some cute-iron-ons. Maybe not the most creative, but definitely 100% cute.

Then there is cooking. Our neighbor gave us several pounds of "too-much-produce-from-farmers-market" mushrooms, and Suketu kept bugging the hell out of me--What you going to make? What you going to make? What I really wanted to make, I didnt have the ingredients for...so I just looked around the kitchen and made-do. I think that is the best kind of cooking.

Tomato-Mushrooms with a Black Pepper Kick

Tomato-Mushrooms with a Black Pepper Kick

Ingredients
1. Two pounds mushrooms, sliced
2. Two medium sized onions, diced
3. Two tablespoons tomato sauce
4. black pepper powder, depending on how much of a kick you want
5. one and a half teaspoon garam masala
6. salt to taste
7. two tablespoons olive oil
8. five cloves garlic, finely chopped

In a heavy pot, heat the oil, and add the onions and garlic. Under low-medium heat, Sweat them until the moisture leaves them AND they have browned. Add the tomato sauce and continue to cook them until the oil leaves the onion-tomato sauce mixture. See this great blog-post for details.

Add the black pepper, garam masala, and salt and continue to stir. After thirty seconds, add the mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms are done! Serve with roti or over rice.

The iron-ons are cute! I have done the whole freezer paper stenciling thing on them and it's cute, but iron-ons would be instant gratification!

There is nothing like a quick craft to pick you up. There is so much pleasure in something you can make quickly and enjoy.
