Mellow Yellow

It is certain that I have a yellow addiction. You can tell by our living room walls. Or by my latest projects.

The first one is for my niece. Yes, I have a niece! She will turn a month old in a few days, and she is delicious. Two granddaughters in the family--we are going to have so much drama...oh, I cant stand it! So for my special little girl, I made a blanket. It is a simple pattern, accented with some yellow. Specifically, I wanted to make a granny-stitch-inspired blanket, because of my mother. That was one of the first crochet stitches I learned from her, that was the first kind of blanket I made for Anya, and I wanted the same thing for my brother. Hopefully, I can fill my niece's memories with handknits, just like how our mother did for us.

Then Suketu wanted a scarf. But our friend here is very picky and very involved in the process. He needs to approve the yarn, the color, the texture, the stitch, the finishing. You name it, he is IT. One saturday night, I pulled an all nigher making swatches, and waking him up to see as I moved from one to another! After all that swatching, unbelievable, but we ended up with a single crochet scarf.

Holy cow--really, I wasted a Saturday night sleep? I think part of the problem is that there aren't many simple, yet classic crocheted scarves out there for men (or women). I found way too much cabling and intense texturized patterns--which did not satisfy Mr. Picky. So I chained 30 stitches, and single crocheted until the cows came home. PS: the yarn is divine. Also, it is "dkish," so I used a large hook size--I wanted to get a "drapey" fabric.

Once the scarf was done, Suketu wanted yellow edging. I used leftovers from my niece's blanket. Then he wanted his initials embroidered...after some trial and error (or lets say, SWATCHES), I (or WE) arrived at this. All in all, it is a hilarious experience. For those who know Suketu, he is quite simple in some ways. But when it comes to things that I make for him, he is an incredibly bossy. Strangely, I love it. Because he truly cherishes what I make, and bores everyone he meets about his fancy-handmade-stuff-tales.
